Welcome to the Cipher Brief's 2020 Threat Conference.
What a year this has been for us all. If we’ve seen one thing over the past few months, it is this: threats to national security haven’t been abated by the spread of coronavirus. Keeping the Cipher Brief community carefully connected is more important this year than ever before. That’s why we are bringing you the Cipher Brief Threat Conference from September 13-15 in Sea Island, GA. We know this pandemic is affecting everyone in unique ways, so we are offering different ways to participate.
First, you’ll see some changes to our 2020 agenda, including an all-virtual attendee option as well as an in-person option. Changes for in-person attendees will include smaller gatherings and outdoor sessions.
We are also adding virtual networking sessions for all attendees which will pair Cipher Brief experts with private sector leaders for 45-minute networking opportunities. There will be no structured remarks during these networking events to encourage as much engagement among attendees as possible.
The dinner this year honors Mr. Charlie Allen with our very first Cipher Brief Lifetime Achievement Award. It will be happening virtually on Sunday, September 13, from 7:00pm – 8:15pm.
We believe that we will get through this pandemic together and we want to thank you for your support and your focus on the pressing national security issues facing us all. Please watch for this year’s updated agenda via email by the end of August.
For those who choose to participate in-person:
-
There will be a credential check at The Cloister front gate, as the resort is located on a private island closed to public traffic.
-
There will be a mandatory mask requirement for in-person events.
-
Social distancing guidelines will be in place during all sessions.
-
The resort will conduct a temperature screening of all attendees before allowing entrance into indoor conference spaces.
-
If any attendee exhibits a fever, or any COVID-19 symptoms, they will not be allowed into the conference spaces and will be asked to participate virtually from their room.
Keeping this community connected is critically important, so for the first time, we will provide a private briefing book and a series of virtual sessions to all registered attendees after the conference.
The Cipher Brief conducted an onsite visit last month and we were very happy to see The Cloister's level of attention to health and hygiene. For more information on the Sea Island Health and Hygiene Guidelines, please visit seaisland.com/reopen/.
TO OUR SPONSORS
We’d like to thank our Cipher Brief Threat Conference Sponsors for their commitment to supporting public-private sector community engagement and collaboration on critical national security issues that impact us all.
Future Threats and the Power of Thinking Differently
Today’s threat actors are succeeding by staying one step ahead of their targets, whether that means adopting new technologies or using existing strategies in new ways. We’re seeing this with the Internet of Things and the use of gray zone tactics by geopolitical powers around the world.
In order for the U.S. and its allies to understand and prepare for future threats, we need to challenge what we think we know and be open to innovative ideas, regardless of where they come from.
The new national security playbook has to allow us set politics aside to find better, more efficient ways for the public and private sectors to work together. That way, we can share best practices on identifying and investing in new technologies and challenge the ways we have traditionally thought about threats and opportunities.
The Cipher Brief Threat Conference provides a unique experience that no other event in the defense and national security space can match. This series of briefings is not just about who's on the stage, it's about who's in the room.
Come prepared to engage in thought-leadership that expertly addresses the threats of our time.
